Since April, our friends, the Hapgoods, have been dealing with an unimaginable nightmare. For those who know the family, you already know how decent, kind, and upstanding they are. For those who don’t know, please understand that this family is exemplary, respected and admired in their hometown, their shared alma mater, their church and in the business and sports communities – for all the right reasons. They are warm, outgoing, gracious and generous.
In April, the Hapgoods decided to take their first family vacation out of the country – they chose to travel to Anguilla. Their trip quickly turned into a nightmare when a uniformed hotel employee arrived at the family’s room saying he was there to fix a broken sink. There was no broken sink. Scott was robbed and attacked as his daughters watched on. Scott was forced to defend himself and his daughters, in the confines of their private hotel room at the Malliouhana, an Auberge Resorts property, against the hotel employee. Scott was stabbed by the attacker’s knife and sustained several other gruesome injuries. Scott held down the attacker asking for him to be put into handcuffs. When the hotel security person arrived, he took over restraint. The attacker died almost a full hour after he was removed, and yet it was Scott who was charged with manslaughter! He had to spend several nights in police custody before he was ultimately bailed.
As the legal process unfolded, we learned that the attacker had been arrested and charged with raping his ex-girlfriend. Those rape charges were pending at the time of the incident, and the attacker was not allowed to come into contact with his ex girlfriend or their daughter, as a condition of his bail.
Furthermore, four (4!) months later, a toxicology report finally surfaced showing the hotel employee was high on over TWICE the amount of cocaine regularly accepted as being LETHAL and drunk by over TWICE the legal driving limit, in addition to having other drugs in his system. Inexplicably, despite this violent history and habitual drug use, the Malliohana continued to employ the attacker.
In September after finally receiving the toxicology report, the medical expert who conducted the original autopsy (which was used to originally charge Scott Hapgood) produced a new corrected and revised autopsy, to include the toxicology analysis. Based on clear and convincing medical evidence, the corrected autopsy (again, by the same expert who Anguilla relied on to charge Hapgood in the first place), now concludes that it was the cocaine overdose which caused the attacker’s death. The massive amount of cocaine in the attacker’s system caused blood vessels and alveoli (tiny air sacs comprising the lungs) to burst, which in turn caused blood to pour into his lungs, thereby suffocating (i.e. asphyxiating) him. This confirms the charges should have never been brought in the first place, and should have long since been dropped.
Recently, Kallie Hapgood, Scott’s wife appeared on Fox and Friends to speak for the first time about the enduring nightmare that the Hapgood Family is experiencing at the hands of the Anguillian courts. She appealed to our President for help and he thankfully heard the call and tweeted the following after the segment aired:
“Will be looking into the Scott Hapgood case, and the Island of Anguilla. Something looks and sounds very wrong. I know Anguilla will want to see this case be properly and justly resolved! @foxandfriends @SteveDucey @ainsleyearhardt” – Donald J. Trump, @realDonaldTrump (Oct 14)

As Scott notes in the Town and Country article above, the cost to defend himself has already decimated their life savings and the defense-related costs only seem to grow exponentially. Scott and his team of lawyers and security have already been back to the island three times and will return again in November. The costs are exacerbated by the continuous delays in the legal process, including travel to Anguilla for mere procedural touch-points that result in adjournments.
The prosecution has long been aware of the employee’s prior arrest record and the results of the toxicology report showing lethal amounts of – drugs – which, even taken individually should have been case disqualifying facts! This evidence confirms that Scott was protecting his family from an armed and drug-fueled intruder, and removes any purported “mystery” as to why a uniformed Malliouhana employee would enter a private hotel room in this reckless manner.
Yet, despite being wrongfully accused, Scott continues to honorably adhere to the legal process. Thereby adding enormous financial burden and increasing the risk to Scott’s safety and security.
Many people (not only friends and family but people who have never met the Hapgoods) have already provided tremendous support to the Hapgood family. So very many others have continuously reached out asking how they can help. And so, we have created this Freedomfy page to provide a platform for anyone that would like to help the Hapgoods. Any size donation would be greatly appreciated, as would passing along the details of this Freedomfy site. But please do not feel an obligation to donate.
Additionally, please also consider signing our recent petition to show support for Scott and his family. We will deliver the petition to local and national lawmakers. CLICK HERE: SIGN THE PETITION: Save Scott Hapgood.
In one fateful moment, the Hapgoods’ lives changed forever. What they have endured through this grave physical attack is, in and of itself, too much for any family to bear.
We are hoping this Freedomfy page becomes one way to help alleviate some of the stress the Hapgood family is continuing to endure. We also hope that these funds will help them attain the justice and freedom that they deserve.
Please consider joining us to aid this innocent, loving and worthy family. We can make a difference in the way that this story ends, and the time to act is now.
Our Most Sincere Thanks,
Friends of the Hapgood Family
