  • About the Author
In the spirit of adventure, Golden View Classical Academy is embarking on its first crowdfunding campaign. Golden View is a low-tech school, which means students do not use their personal devices in the classroom.
Paradoxically, the school is using technology to raise money for something extremely non-technological. We want to bring an invaluable resource to our school for teachers and students – a complete set of the Oxford English Dictionary.

At Golden View Classical, we read books. Actual books, like The Life of George Washington, that you can hold in your hand, rifle through, return to, and come to make your own. We read Homer, Shakespeare, the Founders, Mark Twain, and other greats in their entirety.
But these texts are hard. We don’t give students the kind of snippets that you find in textbooks, or the modern translations of the books that make them more accessible by stealing from students the actual substance and heart of the thing. This means that we find ourselves in need of a supporting resource, what used to be THE supporting resource, for students and teachers alike.
The Oxford English Dictionary has no rival. Every definition is accompanied by a group of quotations demonstrating the main usage of the word as well as the contexts in which the word can be used. It includes over half a million words and nearly 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of sources such as Shakespeare and Chaucer. Unlike Wikipedia, the bane of research papers, the content in the Oxford dictionary is scrupulously researched and therefore reliable.
This 20-volume set would have a special place in our library and would be available to all our students and teachers. So I ask you to help us regain something of what modern education has stolen. Help us find beauty in our language and our heritage, as something to strive after to better our lives.

As a way to say thank you, families who donate $50 or more will be given the option of having their names displayed in the volume that corresponds to their last name. For instance, the Jones family would appear on the inside front cover of Volume VIII.

This is an all-or-nothing campaign so your credit card will only be charged if we reach our $1,500 goal. Any extra funds raised will be used for school improvements. Thank you for helping us bring this wonderful reference tool to Golden View Classical Academy.
